How It Works
How It Works
Track-A-Pitch was built to make tracking and managing your pitcher’s performance simple, accurate, and insightful. This page gives you a full walkthrough of what the app can do, from pitch tracking to rest recommendations, all supported by real screenshots from the app. Whether you're a coach, parent, or player, you’ll see exactly how each feature works and how it helps keep your pitcher safe, sharp, and game-ready.
Scroll through the sections below to explore each feature in detail.
This is the heart of the app, the Main Tracking Page, where you record every pitch in real time. With one tap, you can log strikes, balls, fouls, hits, and outs as they happen. The app instantly calculates key stats like strike percentage (ST%), first-pitch strike percentage (FPS%), and pitch type breakdowns (FB, CH, CB/SL). You'll also see live updates on pitch count, innings pitched, batters faced, and earned runs. The velocity feature provides you with an approximation of the mph but it's all about timing. The app automatically recommends rest days based on MLB PitchSmart guidelines.
Everything you need to protect your pitcher and track their performance is right here on one screen.
MLB PitchSmart Pitch Count & Recommended Days of Rest Alerts
This alert displays while tracking.
Once a pitcher hits certain pitch count thresholds while pitching and based on the pitchers age, they need mandatory rest days. This message helps you follow PitchSmart approved recovery time to keep arms healthy and ready for the next outing.
This alert displays while tracking.
This alert lets you know the pitcher has hit their daily limit, based on MLB PitchSmart guidelines. Continuing to pitch beyond this point increases injury risk, especially for youth players. It’s a reminder to prioritize safety and long-term development.
This warning displays during pitcher setup.
This warning means the pitcher is still in their required rest window. Depending on the tournament or league, the pitcher may be ineligible to pitch. Pitching too soon can increase fatigue and injury risk. It’s designed to help coaches, parents, and teams make informed, safe decisions.
Tap the “Pitches by Inning” button to see exactly how many pitches were thrown each inning. This helps coaches and parents spot fatigue trends, manage workloads, and make smarter in-game decisions.
Session Management & Auto-Save
Track-A-Pitch makes it easy to manage multiple sessions and pitchers without losing progress. You can switch pitchers mid-game, pause tracking, or resume an active session anytime, even if you close the app. Each session is auto-saved every 5 seconds to protect your data, so if your connection drops or your device closes, your progress is still safe. Whether you're tracking one pitcher or a whole rotation, you stay in control from first pitch to final out.
If you need to exit a session, but the session isn't complete, just click Save Session.
If you need to switch pitchers, just click the switch pitchers button and you will be directed Active Session page to either select or add a new tracking session.
During pitcher setup, if a session is active, you will be alerted to resume the last session and routed to the Active Sessions page.
The Active Sessions page lists all active tracking sessions that have not ended. You can start a new tracking session by clicking the + button.
Log each pitch's location and type with a simple tap. Choose fastball, changeup, or breaking ball, then mark where it landed in or around the strike zone. After the game, head to View Stats to see a visual heatmap showing pitch distribution and location percentages, perfect for spotting patterns, strengths, and areas to improve.
Pitcher Cards
Pitcher Cards give you a quick snapshot of each player's current pitching status. Easily viewable in the View Stats and View Pitchers sections, each card is color-coded for clarity — red means the pitcher is still in a rest period, while blue shows they’re cleared and available to pitch. You’ll see the player’s name, age, and either the next eligible pitch date or their availability status, helping coaches make safe, informed decisions fast.
Get instant email reports after each tracking session is completed. These reports include 39 stats categories and rest recommendations based on MLB’s PitchSmart guidelines. It’s a quick and easy way to review performance and share data with coaches or parents. Don’t want reports? You can turn them off anytime in your Preferences.
Viewing Stats
This is the most powerful and most-used feature in Track-A-Pitch. View Stats gives you a complete breakdown of every pitcher’s performance, making it easy to track progress, identify trends, and make smart coaching decisions. Start by scrolling through your full list of pitchers, each clearly labeled with age and availability. Tap any pitcher to view detailed stat lines from individual games, including pitch counts, strike percentages, pitch types, and more.
Want to go deeper? Hit the Filter button to view stats by date range, specific opponent, or individual pitcher, allowing you to compare performances over time or across matchups.
Need to export data? Download your stats as an Excel file — it will be saved directly to your device. You can edit the opponent name and game time, while all other fields remain locked to protect data accuracy.
